Daybook

Terms of use

In effect from October 24, 2026

By using Daybook, you agree to these terms. They are short, and written to be read.

What Daybook is

Daybook is a free tool to help you change a habit: log urges and slips, learn your pattern, and keep going after a hard day. It is made by Jeff Smith, an independent developer.

Daybook is not medical care

Daybook does not diagnose or treat any condition, and it is not a replacement for a doctor, therapist or counselor. The lessons share good research in plain words, but they are not advice for your situation. If you are in crisis in the US, call or text 988, or call 911.

Who can use it

Daybook is for anyone 16 or older. If you are under 18 and the law where you live asks for it, use Daybook with the okay of a parent or guardian. If you make an account, keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what is done with it.

Your content is yours

What you write in Daybook belongs to you. Daybook stores it only to show it back to you and to sync it between your devices, as the privacy policy describes. You can save a copy or delete it at any time.

Using the service fairly

Please do not try to reach anyone else's records, overload or attack the service, or use Daybook to break the law. An account used that way may be closed.

Free, and tips

Daybook is free, and everything for hard moments stays free for everyone. Tips are optional gifts toward keeping Daybook running. A tip of $5 or more makes you a supporter, which opens a few extras: sync, a safe copy of your log and the deeper stats. A tip is paid once and does not renew. Accounts made before tips opened sync keep it. If you tipped by mistake, write within 30 days and it will be refunded; a tip paid with Apple's in-app purchase is refunded by Apple, at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Changes and availability

Daybook will keep changing as it gets better. It is offered as it is, without promises that it will always be available or free of mistakes. Earned things (points, levels, badges and awards) are never taken away by a change. If Daybook ever has to close, you will be told in the app ahead of time, with time to save a copy of everything.

Limits

To the extent the law allows, Daybook and its maker are not responsible for indirect losses from using it, and the total responsibility for any claim is limited to the amount you paid in tips in the year before it.

The App Store

On iPhone, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Apple is not responsible for Daybook or its support; write to us instead.
